Mom’s White Bread

3 cups water, warmed to 120 degrees
1 pkg yeast
3 T sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/3 cup dry milk
6 T margarine

Mix water, yeast and sugar, allowing yeast to soften. Add margarine, dry milk and salt. Stir well. Stir in enough flour to make a moderately stiff dough. Turnout onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic (10 minutes). Shape into a ball and put back into pan. Cover; let rise to double in size, then knead down.  Allow to rise a second time and put into two loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

Carrot Bread

Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Muffins

1/2 cup butter or margarine
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup applesauce
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup (6 oz) semisweet chocolate chips

In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg. Combine dry ingredients; add alternately with applesauce to the creamed mixture. Stir in oats and chips. Fill greased or paper-lined muffin tins 3/4 full. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.

Yields 12 muffins.

Junior Class Navajo Taco Dough

(Quick and Easy Fry Bread)

4 cups flour
8 T baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 cup dry milk
2 cups hot water

Mix all and knead. Let stand for about 10 minutes. Roll out and cut in desired shapes. Fry in hot oil.

Put your favorite taco toppings on: cheese, beans, chili, olives, lettuce, etc.
