Cowley has a population of about 500 people. It always has, and maybe always will. Founded by stalwart Mormon pioneers, it’s a small town located in northern Wyoming, at the base of the Big Horn Mountains. For the people who grew up there, it will forever be “home”. And as for the people who marry those of us who grew up there? Well, they just have to deal with it.
In 1987, the Cowley First Ward of the LDS Church created “The Friendly Favorites Cookbook”. It became practically a standard work very quickly, given as wedding gifts and coveted like few other texts before it. Ask most Cowley-ites, and they’ll you that somewhere they have the little blue book, bound with white plastic and tattered and stained from years of use. Other Cowley cookbooks have been created since, but this little cookbook has yet to meet its match.
Eventually, this site will house each of the recipes in that cookbook, with the notations that were originally made and credit given to those wonderful contributors from years past. Each recipe from the original book will be labeled as a “CC Original.” But, just like Cowley has welcomed newcomers with open arms, we look forward to adding new recipes here as well.
We hope you enjoy your visit here and encourage you to enjoy this little taste of our hometown.
